As the legal battle between “It Ends With Us” co-stars Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively continues, Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has addressed the possibility of deposing Taylor Swift in connection with the case[3][5]. In a February 5th appearance on TMZ’s “Two Angry Men” podcast, Freedman stated that a decision on whether to depose Swift would be made during the trial[1].
Freedman noted that if Swift possessed information that could provide evidence in support of Baldoni’s case, he would not hesitate to depose her[1]. “Anyone that reasonably has information that can provide evidence in this case is going to be deposed, I mean, for sure,” Freedman said[1]. E! News has reached out to Swift’s representatives for comment but has not yet received a response[1].
Although Swift was not directly involved in the film, her song “My Tears Ricochet” was featured in a single scene and trailer[1]. She was also alluded to in evidence provided in Baldoni’s January 16th legal filing, where he sued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist for $400 million[1][3]. In the filing, Baldoni alleges that Lively pressured him to grant her more creative freedom with the help of Reynolds and another celebrity friend[1]. While the friend’s name was redacted in most of the evidence, one instance of the name “Taylor” was left uncovered in a text conversation regarding a scene Lively had rewritten[1].
Baldoni further alleged that Lively made a veiled threat to have Swift’s song removed from the film if her demands were not met[1]. These allegations come after Lively sued Baldoni for sexual harassment and retaliation[3][4]. Prior to Baldoni’s lawsuit, Lively filed a legal complaint with the California City Rights Department against Baldoni and his company, Wayfarer Studios, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a social media campaign to ruin her reputation[3][4].
Amidst the legal conflict, rumors circulated that the 10-year friendship between Lively and Swift was in jeopardy[1]. However, a source told E! News that these rumors were false[1].
Adding to the complexities, Jed Wallace and his crisis PR firm, Street Relations Inc., have filed a defamation lawsuit against Lively for naming them in her initial complaint against Baldoni[1][7]. Wallace claims that Lively’s statements caused “millions of dollars in reputational harm” and is seeking “not less than $6,000,000” in punitive damages[1]. Lively’s spokesperson has dismissed these claims, stating that they are an attempt to silence her stance against sexual harassment and retaliation[7].
