Why Young Sheldon Never Doing A Christmas Episode Is Odd

Throughout Young Sheldon‘s six years on the air, it has never done a Christmas-themed episode. While not all shows devote content to the holidays, it’s specifically odd for the spin-off, considering Mary’s religious leanings. As a devout born-again Christian, she fully believes in Jesus and his story. One would assume that she would be more active in celebrating his birth. Sheldon did mention that her mom went all-out during Christmas in The Big Bang Theory, but Young Sheldon never actually showed any of those antics.

What makes Young Sheldon season 7’s potential Christmas outing stranger is the fact that Mary hasn’t kept in touch with her church since being fired by Pastor Jeff due to the unexpected pregnancy of Georgie and Mandy. Instead, she has devoted her time and effort to her family, which helped in addressing some of her marital issues with George. At the end of Young Sheldon season 6, she accompanied Sheldon to Germany — something that she may not have been able to do if she was still tied up to her congregation.

Young Sheldon season 7’s possible Christmas episode gives the family something to celebrate before a string of changes head their way. Per The Big Bang Theory canon, George’s death is near, which means that sooner rather than later, the family could lose their patriarch. On top of that, Sheldon is also due to move out of Texas, which will likely happen at the end of the season.
